Meet The Team
Bracha Drissman, CALD
Executive Director
As Executive Director of Clarendale Ann Arbor, I bring more than 21 years of experience dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults.
My career began as a student intern while earning my Therapeutic Recreation degree and certification, and that early hands-on experience shaped my lifelong commitment to person-centered care.
I specialize in supporting individuals with memory impairments and designing therapeutic interventions that promote dignity, purpose, and quality of life, regardless of diagnosis or limitations. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on creating environments where residents feel understood, valued, and empowered.
What I love most about my work is the time spent connecting with residents on a personal level. Learning their stories, honoring their goals, and walking alongside them in this chapter of life is both a privilege and a passion. My mission is to ensure every resident receives the support, respect, and meaningful engagement they deserve.

Before joining our team, Joan worked in a skilled nursing facility, where she developed a strong understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by seniors and their families. This experience shaped her philosophy: that residents are the heart of everything we do. Joan believes they are our most important stakeholders and strives every day to make their lives as comfortable, fulfilling, and joyful as possible. Her leadership in sales and marketing is driven by a passion for building meaningful connections, fostering trust, and ensuring that families feel confident in choosing our community. Joan’s approach combines professionalism with genuine care, making her an advocate for both residents and their loved ones. Outside of work, Joan enjoys being part of the vibrant Ann Arbor community and values the relationships she has built over more than two decades in the area.

Joe Nicholson
Chef
I developed an interest in cooking at an early age. Living only a few steps from my grandparents’ home, I spent extensive time in the kitchen with my grandmother, where my passion for the culinary arts first began.
This early foundation inspired me to pursue cooking as a profession, and at age 15 I entered the culinary field, steadily advancing through increasing levels of responsibility.
I joined Balfour in 2019 as a sous chef. After gaining additional experience in a luxury hotel environment, I realized how much I missed the meaningful connections and sense of purpose that come from serving seniors. When the Culinary Director position at Clarendale became available six months later, I welcomed the opportunity to return to senior living and was honored to be selected for the role.
